You might have heard about intermittent fasting. It’s very famous. Usually you only eat in a particular time period, and the rest of the time you don’t eat anything. For example, considering 16:8, you don’t eat anything for 16 hours; you have to eat all your meals in the rest of the 8 hours. That’ for the body.
But no one talks about mental fasting. There is no particular definition of mental fasting, but what you consume is not only food. The content you watch, books you read, conversations you participate in, and places you visit are all consumption and all have an impact on you, either positive or negative. You have the power to make sure it always has a positive impact by deciding what and when to consume, i.e., mental fasting.
Now the important thing is, how do you do mental fasting?
I have been doing mental fasting for approx. 3 years, and it works like magic. From my personal experience, here’s how you can do mental fasting.
What should you not focus on?
- Don’t touch your mobile phone 1 hour after waking up and 1 hour before waking up.
- Except for something important, don’t use your phone for a whole day once a week.
- Limit the time you spend on social media.
- Stay away from those that drain your energy, whether it’s a person or a place.
- Stay away from the conversations that involve gossiping, complaining, or talking about other people.
What should you focus on?
- Start your day with gratitude. Say thank you for the things that you are grateful for. If you are able to wake up, drink water, eat food, and spend some time with friends or family, you are more blessed than you think.
- Read books and learn something new every day, even if it is just for 30 minutes.
- Watch the content that helps you move toward your goal.
- Listening to the peaceful music.
Here’s what you will achieve after doing mental fasting.
- Your focus and attention span will improve.
- You will be able to think more clearly.
- You will have better control over your emotions.
- You will feel more calm and peaceful throughout the day.
Your mental health is also more important, along with physical health. Taking care of physical as well as mental health is essential for a fulfilling life.
